Introduction:
Language is not only the most important tool for communication and thinking but also an indispensable carrier and component of culture. The term “dialect” has long been used since ancient China, which referred to the linguistic usages across different regions and was closely related to the geographical setting. This workshop will discuss both the history and geography of the Chinese in order to understand the diachronic variation and features of different dialects and to allow participants to appreciate the historical background of their own dialects.
