Culture and Life: Promotion and Learning of Chinese Classical Poetry on Campus (2024/25)

This project aims to fill the existing gap in university Chinese teaching, with the goal of promoting classical poetry learning and bringing poetry to students’ lives by diverse learning activities which serve to arouse students’ interest in classical poetry, to improve their language ability and to promote the diversity of Chinese language and literature learning. These activities include:

1. Establishing a classical poetry E-Platform to showcase workpieces in different Analyses on the rhythm, content and writing skills of each piece as well as audio files in both Cantonese and Mandarin would be provided for students to self-learn.
2. Organizing a poetry dissemination campaign, “Elegant Recitation,” which display poetry campuswide and conduct peer study groups so as to promote a poetry learning atmosphere throughout the university.
3. Delivering 4 talks on classical poetry to enhance students’ writing and appreciation skills of the genres.
4. Hosting a couplet creation competition to further promote poetry learning and creation.

All these benefit students including those who are not taking “University Chinese I and II.” Not only that their language proficiency is improved, but the invaluable cultural heritage could also be passed unto the younger generation.
